I don’t know if you all have noticed, but it has been a long time since I posted anything. I’m sure you all have been wringing your hands wondering what had happened to me and my witty banter about food and life. Well, you can put your minds at ease. I have returned.
Food is my hobby. I teach for a living. My background is in theater and music, but I teach mostly history with a little Bible classes and fine arts. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. But I have been so busy with teaching, and truth be told, producing the stage play “Arsenic and Old Lace”. I have made a few yummy things in the past few months, but most of my efforts have been in the theater.
Today is Memorial Day. I love America. Patriotism has been deeply embedded in my life from my youth. And I will be ever thankful for that. Both of my grandfathers fought in WWII and my two brother-in-laws served in the armed service. God bless America, land that I love.
To celebrate Memorial Day I had some friends over. (On a side note I live with my parents. Get over it. I’m 31.) This family, lets call them “the Silvers”, are good friends. The four of them spent the afternoon at our house eating and fellow-shipping.
I made a grilled panzanella salad, a loaded baked potato salad, broccoli rabe, grilled corn, steaks, and a gorgonzola sauce. And for dessert I made mini chocolate cupcakes with caramel filling and a salted chocolate frosting. It was an amazing dinner.
“The Silvers” are such nice people. I may have over-cooked the steaks just a little, but they pretended like they were good any way. The gorgonzola sauce was the shining star to the meal. When added to the steak, it turned it into a magical, amazing meal. Thank you, Ina Garten.
I should have more time this summer to dedicate to my blog. I’m sure that filled many of you with joy. I hope it filled you with more than indigestion.
Happy Memorial Day!
